Introduction: the question everyone asks

Many entrepreneurs and professionals reach a certain point: their website is not delivering results. There are few enquiries, few contacts and inconsistent traffic. At that point, the question arises: is it better to redesign the website from scratch or is it possible to optimise the existing one?

The answer is never automatic. It depends on the technical structure, SEO strategy, clarity of message and business objectives. Before deciding to rebuild the website, it is essential to analyse what works and what hinders performance.

When it makes sense to rebuild a website from scratch

Completely rebuilding a website makes sense in these cases:

• Obsolete technical structure or cannot be updated

• Difficult to manage CMS or no longer supported

• Serious structural problems on the SEO side (incorrect URLs, inconsistent architecture)

• User experience completely ineffective

• Radical rebranding of the company

In these situations, making minor changes is not enough. If the technical foundation is fragile, continuing to optimise risks generating only additional costs.

When is it best to optimise your existing website?

Often the problem is not the technology but the strategy. Here’s when it’s best to take action without rebuilding your website:

• The website receives traffic but does not convert

• The message is unclear or undifferentiated.

• The calls to action are weak or not very visible.

• SEO has not been developed properly

• Performance can be improved

In these cases, it is possible to work on structure, content, technical SEO and conversion without rebuilding everything from scratch, achieving concrete results with a more efficient investment.

The 5 mistakes that waste your budget

Many investments are wasted for these reasons:

1. Redesigning your website solely for aesthetic reasons

2. Not analysing the data before making a decision

3. Not defining clear objectives

4. Neglecting SEO during the redesign

5. Choose only based on price

A website is not a graphic expense but a strategic tool. Every decision should be based on data, objectives and return on investment.

Practical mini checklist

Before deciding whether to redesign your website, check these points:

• Is the site really slow or just not optimised?

• Does the content speak to your ideal customer?

• Is the SEO structure consistent with user searches?

• Do the pages have clear objectives?

• Do analytics data show specific sticking points?

If you answer yes to more than one of these questions, it is probably possible to take strategic action without starting completely from scratch.

Conclusion: analysis before action

The choice between rebuilding your website or optimising it should not be impulsive. A technical and strategic analysis allows you to understand exactly where to intervene, avoiding waste and maximising your return on investment.

Before making a final decision, it is advisable to evaluate data, structure and objectives. A technical comparison can quickly clarify which path is truly the most effective.

Request a strategic evaluation of your site

Introduction

When you need to build a website, one of the first questions that usually comes up is:
WordPress or a custom-built site?

It’s a legitimate question, but in most cases it’s asked at the wrong time.
And this is exactly why many websites, although technically well made, fail to deliver real business results.

The real problem is not the technology

In my work, I often encounter two recurring scenarios:

• WordPress sites overloaded with plugins, visually polished but confusing, that generate no leads
• Expensive custom-built sites that fail to communicate value and do not support the business

In both cases, the technology itself is not wrong.
It is wrong in relation to the actual goals of the project.

Why starting from technology is a mistake

When you start with the question “WordPress or custom?” without first clarifying:

• what the website must achieve
• who it should speak to
• what role it plays in the business

you risk investing time and budget in the wrong direction.

Technology should be a consequence of strategy, not the starting point.

When WordPress really makes sense

WordPress is an extremely flexible platform and, when part of a clear strategy, it can become a powerful business tool.

It makes sense when:

• the website needs to evolve over time
• autonomy in content management is required
• the goal is clear communication and lead generation

The problem is not WordPress.
The problem is using it without strategic direction.

When a custom website is the right choice

A custom-built website makes sense only in well-defined contexts:

• complex projects
• advanced integrations
• non-standard requirements

A custom website alone does not guarantee results.
Without a clear vision, it remains a technical investment, not a business asset.

The right question to ask

Before asking which technology to use,
ask yourself what your business needs to achieve through the website.

Only then does it make sense to choose the most suitable technical solution.

Conclusion

Technology comes after strategy.

An effective website is not the most complex one,
but the one that truly works for your business.

Is your website a cost or an investment today?

If you want to understand whether your technology choices are aligned with your business goals, the first step is strategy, not code.

REQUEST A STRATEGIC EVALUATION OF YOUR WEBSITE

“I don’t have the budget for a website”

I hear this at least once a week.

And I get it. €2,000-3,000 is a lot of money, especially for a small business.

But let me tell you from experience: the right question isn’t “how much does it cost to build one”. It’s “how much is NOT having one costing me”.

Because the costs are there. They’re just hidden. And often much higher.

The costs you don’t see (but pay anyway)

1. Lost customers going to your competitors

A potential customer searches Google for “dentist Thessaloniki”. They find 5 practices. Three have professional websites. Two have nothing or sites stuck in 2010.

Guess who they call?

It’s not about being the best. It’s about looking trustworthy.

A professional website says: “We’re serious, we care about details, you can trust us.”

An outdated site (or no site) says: “Maybe we’re still in business?”

2. Time wasted answering the same questions

Every day you answer phone calls:

“How much does it cost?”

“What services do you offer?”

“Where are you located?”

“Are you open on Saturday?”

A professional website answers all of this 24/7, without you picking up the phone.

A client of mine (physiotherapist) told me: “I used to spend 2 hours a day on the phone for basic info. Now 30 minutes. The website answers for me.”

Two hours a day. Every day. For a year. Do the math: 730 hours saved.

How much is your time worth?

3. Credibility (or rather, the lack of it)

A client told me this story.

He was looking for an accountant. Found one with great Google reviews but no website. Found another with a professional site, blog, clear FAQs.

He chose the second one. Even though the first one was cheaper.

Why? “He seemed more serious.”

Perception is reality in business.

4. Lost opportunities you don’t even know you’ve lost

This is the worst cost.

How many people have searched for your service, didn’t find you online, and called someone else?

You’ll never know. But it happens. Every single day.

Let’s do some quick math

Say a professional website costs €2,500.

If it brings you just 2 extra clients per year (because they found you on Google, because you seem more credible, because it answers questions 24/7), with an average ticket of €300…

That’s €600 per year.

In 4 years the site has paid for itself.

And in the following 6 years? It’s all profit.

But wait: is 2 extra clients per year really realistic?

Let me be honest: it’s pessimistic. With a well-made site, you should see many more.

It’s not about budget

It’s about seeing the investment for what it is.

You’re not spending €2,500 for “a website”. You’re investing in:

Credibility online

Visibility on Google

Time saved

And most importantly, you’re stopping the loss of customers you don’t even know you’re losing.

Want to understand what it’s really costing you?

I offer a free 20-minute analysis.

We’ll look together at:

What your potential customers are searching on Google

Where they find you (or don’t find you)

How much traffic is going to your competitors

What you could recover with a professional website

Zero commitment. Just numbers and concrete facts.

Because it’s easy to say “I don’t have the budget”. It’s harder to calculate how much NOT having one is costing you.

NEXT STEP:

Request a free evaluation

“How much does a website cost?”

I get this question every week. My answer? “It depends. How much is it costing you NOT to have it done right?”

After 10 years in web development, I’ve learned that growing SMBs view websites completely differently than struggling ones. The former see them as a measurable investment. The latter as a necessary cost.

The problem: nobody taught you how to measure

Real client, healthcare sector, 3-year-old website (cost €800).

I asked: “How much has the site brought you this year?” Answer: “Well… someone probably comes from there.”

We calculated together:

3,200 organic visits

47 completed forms

12 conversions to actual patients

Average patient value: €850

Site ROI: €10,200 per year.

But he didn’t know. He wasn’t measuring. He wasn’t optimizing. He was leaving thousands on the table.

How to calculate your website’s ROI in 4 steps

STEP 1: Calculate customer value

Basic formula: Average Purchase × Frequency × Lifetime

Examples:

Dental practice: €300 × 2 visits/year × 5 years = €3,000

Artisan e-commerce: €80 × 3 purchases/year × 3 years = €720

B2B services: €5,000 × 2 years + €2,000 upsell = €12,000

STEP 2: Track real conversions

What counts as conversion:

Local businesses: calls, forms, bookings, direction clicks

E-commerce: sales, completed carts, created accounts

Services: quotes, downloads, consultations

Free tools: Google Analytics 4, Search Console, form tracking.

STEP 3: Calculate actual conversion rate

It’s not enough to count forms. How many become paying customers?

Law firm example:

1,000 visits/month → 20 forms (2%) → 8 clients (40% of leads)

Average value: €3,500

Monthly ROI: €28,000

If the site cost €4,000, annual ROI is 8,400%.

STEP 4: Identify hidden costs

Direct costs: hosting €100-500/year, maintenance €300-1,200/year.

Indirect costs (more dangerous): management time, downtime, lost SEO.

Real case: e-commerce down 48 hours due to cheap server.

Lost sales: €274

Customers who don’t return: €8,640

“Savings” cost: €9,000+

The metrics that matter

Vanity Metrics (ignore them):

“10,000 visits!” → But how many convert?

“First on Google” → For keywords that bring customers?

“Beautiful site” → But does it generate revenue?

ROI Metrics:

Conversion Rate: 2-5% showcase sites, 1-3% e-commerce

Cost Per Acquisition: CPA < Customer Value = profit

Revenue Per Visitor: 20% increase = thousands € without more traffic

Converting Sources: Organic 3-8%, Direct 5-12%, Social 0.5-2%

Practical template

Calculate now:

Customer Value: Avg Purchase × Frequency × Years = €_____

Monthly conversions from site: _____

Monthly revenue: €_____

Total annual costs: €_____

ROI = (Annual Revenue – Costs) / Costs × 100

Benchmarks:

< 200% → Underperforming

200-500% → Effective

500% → Optimized

If the numbers don’t add up

Low ROI?

Wrong traffic? Analyze sources

UX problems? Use heatmaps

Slow site? Speed test under 3 seconds

Good ROI but improvable?

Local SEO: +30-50% traffic

Simplified forms: +20% conversions

Live chat: +15% leads

Testimonials: +25% trust

Not tracking anything? Minimum setup (2 hours): Google Analytics 4, conversion events, Search Console, monthly spreadsheet.

The cost of the “cheap site”

“It’s just a showcase website, what could they possibly steal?“

This is a phrase I often hear from small business owners. And it’s understandable: if you’re not handling online payments or sensitive customer data, website security might seem like a secondary concern.

The reality, however, is quite different. Even a simple showcase website can become a target for cyberattacks, with consequences that go far beyond what you might imagine.

The Real Risks of an Unprotected Website

1. Reputation Damage (The Invisible Cost)

Imagine this: a potential customer searches for your business on Google, finds your website, and the browser displays a large red warning “Not Secure” or “Your connection is not private.”

What do they do? They immediately leave and look for a competitor.

Even if your site only contains public information, a security warning communicates to the visitor: “This business doesn’t care about details.” In a competitive market, that’s a message you can’t afford to send.

2. Your Site as a Launching Pad to Attack Others

Hackers don’t always attack a website to steal data. Often they look for vulnerable servers to use as “zombies” to:

Send mass spam

Host illegal content

Launch attacks on other sites

The result? Your domain ends up blacklisted, your company emails get blocked as spam, and Google penalizes your ranking. Repairing the damage can take months.

3. Loss of SEO Rankings

Google considers security a ranking factor. Since 2014, sites with SSL certificates (those starting with “https://”) have priority in search results over unsecured ones.

It’s not just a technical issue: it’s a visibility issue. An unsecured site can lose up to 30% of organic traffic simply because Google considers it less trustworthy.

4. Recovery Costs (When It’s Too Late)

Cleaning a hacked website costs on average between €500 and €2,000, depending on the damage. Sometimes, if backups weren’t done properly, the only way is to rebuild everything from scratch.

Add the downtime (days or weeks when the site isn’t reachable), lost customers, and image damage: the real cost can be 10 times higher.

How to Protect Your Site (Without Becoming a Cybersecurity Expert)

SSL Certificate: The Foundation of Security

An SSL certificate encrypts communication between the visitor’s browser and your server. You recognize it by the green padlock in the address bar and the URL starting with “https://”.

It costs very little (often free with modern hosting) and installs in just a few minutes. Yet, it makes a huge difference in your brand perception.

Regular Updates: Prevention That Works

Most cyberattacks exploit known vulnerabilities in outdated software. WordPress, themes, and plugins receive security updates regularly for exactly this reason.

Not updating your site is like leaving your house door open with a sign saying “I’m on vacation.” Hackers use automated bots that scan thousands of sites per day looking for exactly these vulnerabilities.

Automatic Backups: The Plan B That Saves Your Business

If the worst happens, a recent backup allows you to restore everything in a few hours instead of weeks. Daily automatic backups should be a standard, not an optional extra.

Firewall and Monitoring: Continuous Vigilance

A web application firewall (WAF) automatically blocks most attacks before they even reach your site. Monitoring systems alert you immediately in case of suspicious activity.

These are professional tools that, if properly configured, work silently protecting your digital investment 24/7.

Security as Added Value

Investing in website security isn’t just a technical matter: it’s an investment in your company’s credibility.

When a customer sees that your site is protected, they’re not just noticing a green padlock. They’re perceiving a company that:

Cares about details

Respects professional standards

Is reliable and trustworthy

In a digital world where first impressions often happen online, your website’s security speaks about you before you even can.

Conclusion: Prevention is Better Than Cure

Web security isn’t a luxury reserved for e-commerce or large companies. It’s a necessity for anyone with a professional online presence.

The good news? Protecting a showcase website is simpler and more affordable than you think. It only requires the awareness that security isn’t “something to do when we have time,” but an essential component of every professional web project.

Your website represents your business in the digital world. Treat it with the same attention you dedicate to your physical store: would you ever leave without locking the door? Well, with your website it works the same way.

If you own a pizzeria, a hair salon, or a professional office, your best customers are probably those who live near you. But when they search for “pizzeria near me” or “hairdresser [your city]” on Google, do they find your business? If the answer is no, you’re losing customers every day. Fortunately, Local SEO can solve this problem, and it’s simpler than you think.

1. What is Local SEO and Why It’s Essential

Local SEO is the set of techniques that allow your business to appear in Google searches within your area. When someone searches for “plumber Rome” or “restaurant Milan center,” Google displays a map with nearby businesses. Being among those results means intercepting people who are looking for exactly what you offer, right now.

For small businesses, local SEO is even more important than traditional advertising: 76% of people who search for something nearby visit a business within 24 hours. And most of these searches happen on smartphones, while people are already out and about.

2. Google My Business: Your Main Ally

The first fundamental step is creating (or optimizing) your Google My Business profile. It’s free and only takes 20 minutes. Include:

Complete and accurate address

Opening hours always updated

Phone number clickable for direct calls

Category that exactly describes your business

Quality photos of the location, products, team

Even more important: ask satisfied customers to leave you reviews. Google rewards businesses with many positive and recent reviews. Always respond, to both positive and negative reviews: it shows you care about customer opinions.

3. Website Optimized for Your Area

Even if you have Google My Business, an optimized website makes a difference. You don’t need a complicated site, but it must contain clear information:

City and neighborhood name in the content (naturally)

Contact page with address, embedded Google map, and local references

Useful content about your area (e.g., “We’re on X street, near the train station”)

Fast loading time especially on smartphones

Avoid limiting yourself to writing only “We offer quality services.” Write instead “Hairdresser in Florence center, 5 minutes from Piazza Duomo.” Google understands geographical context and rewards you.

4. Be Present Where Your Customers Search

Besides Google, register in local directories relevant to your sector:

Yellow Pages, Yelp, TripAdvisor (for restaurants)

Industry-specific directories for your profession

Social media with geolocation (Instagram, Facebook with check-ins)

The important thing is that name, address, and phone (NAP: Name, Address, Phone) are identical everywhere. Even a small difference confuses Google and penalizes your ranking.

5. Local Content That Attracts Customers

Create content that speaks about your area and your local customers:

Blog posts about local events related to your business

Useful guides for those living in the neighborhood

Case studies of local customers (with their consent)

Photos and videos of the area showing where you are

Example: if you have a restaurant, write “Where to eat after visiting the Uffizi” or “Traditional Tuscan dishes we prepare with ingredients from Sant’Ambrogio market.” This content attracts both tourists and residents.

6. Tips Post-Optimization

Local SEO isn’t “done once and forgotten.” Regularly check:

Google Search Console to see which searches bring people to your site

Google My Business statistics to understand how they find you

New reviews and respond within 24-48 hours

Updates on hours, services, seasonal photos

Dedicate 30 minutes a week to update content, respond to reviews, and post news. This constant commitment makes the difference compared to competitors who abandon after the first month.

Conclusion

Local SEO doesn’t require huge budgets or advanced technical skills. It requires consistency, attention to detail, and willingness to communicate with customers in your area. Start optimizing Google My Business today, and in the coming months you’ll see increased visits, calls, and especially customers who come in saying “I found you on Google.”

When people talk about websites, the focus is often on design and functionality. But there’s another crucial aspect that should never be overlooked: GDPR compliance.

It’s not just a bureaucratic formality—it’s about protecting users’ data and ensuring the legal responsibility of the website owner.

What the GDPR Requires for a Website

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) sets strict rules on how personal data is collected, stored, and processed.
For a website, this means:

Clearly informing users about what data is collected and how it will be used.

Obtaining explicit and documented consent for cookies and tracking.

Allowing users to withdraw or modify their consent at any time.

Ensuring the security of stored data.

In short, GDPR is about transparency, consent, and security.

Double Compliance: Technical and Legal

It’s important to clarify this point: technical compliance alone is not enough.

A developer can handle the practical aspects (cookie banners, consent forms, consent management tools).

But the legal texts (Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Terms and Conditions) must be drafted by a qualified lawyer to be valid and up to date.

Relying on generic templates found online is risky: every business has its own specifics, and regulations continue to evolve.

A Useful Tool for WordPress

For WordPress users, a practical solution can be a plugin like Complianz. This tool helps you:

Generate GDPR-compliant cookie banners.

Manage user consents.

Adapt settings based on country-specific regulations.

However, even if Complianz simplifies the technical side, the legal texts must still be reviewed and written by a lawyer. Only then can you be sure you’re fully compliant.

Conclusion

Having a GDPR-compliant website means protecting your users—and protecting yourself from fines and legal issues.

The key is to rely on both:

a technical professional who correctly implements compliance solutions, and

a legal expert who drafts texts tailored to your business.

A beautiful, functional website is important—but a compliant, secure website is essential.

Your website is your online storefront: it talks about you, your work, and your reliability before a client even contacts you. A well-designed site builds trust, while a neglected one can cost you valuable opportunities.

Here are the 5 most common mistakes that make a website look unprofessional—and how to avoid them.

Outdated or Confusing Design

An old or messy layout drives users away in seconds.

Today, design should be:

Clean and modern

Easy to navigate

Consistent with your brand image

Remember: less is more. A minimal, clear site communicates professionalism far better than a page cluttered with chaotic elements.

Poorly Written or Error-Filled Text

Your written content is your voice online. Grammar mistakes, overly long texts, or outdated content immediately leave a negative impression.

Tip: aim for short, clear, readable texts that speak directly to your client and highlight your strengths.

Slow Loading Speed

If a site takes more than 3 seconds to load, many users will leave.

Professional hosting, optimized images, and lightweight code make a huge difference. A fast website not only improves user experience but is also rewarded by Google.

Not Mobile-Friendly

Most visits today come from mobile devices. A site that doesn’t adapt well to smaller screens signals unprofessionalism.

Simple rule: mobile first.

Lack of Security and Reliability

A site without SSL (https://) or showing security warnings immediately discourages visitors.

Additionally, an outdated site or obsolete plugins can make you vulnerable to attacks. Security isn’t optional—it’s part of the trust you convey.

Conclusion

Avoiding these mistakes is crucial to giving your website the professional image it deserves. A professional site doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, but it must communicate clarity, reliability, and care for your clients.

Remember: your website is often the first contact clients have with your business. Make it speak well about you.

When creating a website, two crucial decisions must be made before you even start designing pages: the domain name and the hosting provider. These aren’t minor details—they can make the difference between a site that works smoothly and one that causes problems from day one.

Choosing a Domain Name: simple, memorable, and consistent

Your domain name is the first thing a visitor sees. It should be:

Short and easy to remember, so people can find you without typos.

Representative of your brand or business, instantly conveying who you are and what you offer.

SEO-friendly, if possible, by including a relevant keyword for your sector.

Avoid names that are too long, complex, or full of hyphens and numbers. A good domain builds credibility and makes sharing easy.

The Importance of Professional Hosting

Hosting is the “home” of your website online. Not all hosting services are equal—choosing a professional provider brings concrete benefits:

High performance: faster sites improve user experience and Google ranking.

Advanced security: automatic backups, SSL certificates, protection from cyberattacks.

Reliability and guaranteed uptime: a site that often goes offline risks losing clients and credibility.

Qualified technical support: having someone respond quickly to issues is invaluable, especially if you don’t have advanced technical skills.

Investing in good hosting reduces stress and risk while giving visitors a smooth and secure experience.

Conclusion

Choosing the right domain name and hosting isn’t a minor detail—it’s a true investment in your site’s success.

A clear, consistent domain boosts memorability and credibility, while professional hosting ensures performance, security, and continuity.

Don’t underestimate these steps: a strong foundation means a website that’s solid, fast, and ready to grow with your business.

Introduction

Have you ever wondered why some people charge €300 for a “website” while others ask for €3,000 (or even more)?
The truth is: there’s no fixed price. A website can be very inexpensive or a significant investment. The difference doesn’t just lie in the number of pages or the design, but above all in the value that site brings to your business.

Many entrepreneurs and professionals feel lost when requesting a quote: wildly different offers, confusion about what’s actually included, and the sense of not having the right tools to make an informed choice.

In this short guide, I’ll try to shed some light on the topic.

Why do prices vary so much?

A website isn’t a standard product like a phone or a printer. It’s a tailor-made project, and that’s why prices depend on several factors:

Type of website: showcase site, e-commerce, blog, custom platform.

Requested features: advanced contact forms, private areas, payment systems, multilingual setup, integrations with external software.

Design: pre-built templates vs. fully customized graphics.

SEO and performance: a fast, optimized site that’s ready to be found on Google requires extra technical work.

Support and maintenance: quotes may or may not include updates, backups, and security.

In short: what looks like the “same website” can actually hide days—or even weeks—of very different work.

Common price ranges

Here’s an indicative overview to help you understand where your project might fit:

Basic / DIY site (€200–500)

Built with online builders or standard themes.

Works as a minimal presence, but it’s inflexible and not always professional.

Professional showcase site (€800–2,000)

Suitable for freelancers and small businesses.

Polished design, optimized content, SEO-friendly structure.

Includes pages like Home, About, Services, Contact, Blog.

E-commerce (€1,500–5,000 and up)

Sell products/services online with order and payment management.

Requires more complex configurations and stronger security.

Custom projects (from €5,000 upward)

Tailored platforms, private areas, integrated management systems, web apps.

Every feature is designed and developed specifically for the business.

How to evaluate a quote wisely

When you receive an offer, ask yourself:

Does the site truly meet my business needs?

Are security, backups, and support included?

Will the site be fast, responsive, and SEO-optimized?

Will I be able to update it easily on my own?

A good provider doesn’t just hand you a website—they help you turn it into a working business tool.

Conclusion: more than a cost, it’s an investment

A website isn’t just an expense to tick off the budget list. It’s a strategic investment.

If done well, it helps you:

attract new clients,

enhance your professional image,

simplify processes and communication.

The key isn’t to spend more or less, but to invest in what your business really needs.

Your website should work for you 24/7—not just be a static showcase.
